I feel the weight of time. Do you? So much of my life these days has been me trying to figure out what I’m supposed to be working on. What is my next? Because I can tell you that I know whatever I put my hands to, I will put my whole heart to. But, what is worth my undivided attention is the hard part. What am I supposed to create? I am so, so eager to step into something. In the meantime, I’ve been working on my heart a lot. Who I am and the intention that pushes me forward is the foundation for everything I create- so I’m convinced it’s the most important part, even when it feels like I’m losing time or slowing down. When my ambition comes out, I have to remind myself that I set apart this time for building my foundation. And, I can tell you this: there is a stirring inside of me. I can feel it, but I can’t see it.
But, isn’t this life? Isn’t this the journey of any artist and entrepreneur?
. . .
Are you struggling with your next? (That unknown future that you feel the pressure to create, but don’t even know where to begin.)
I am right there with you friend. And, this is what has become clear: in order to step into my future, I must be obedient and responsible with even just the little I can create today- even if it’s not creating what I want to create…eventually. It’s practicing. When it’s not clear what to do next, just move. Practice your craft. So, I will challenge you: do what you know you can do right where you are. If you want to be a famous author, write- write bad. If you want to be a musician, sit down with your instrument, play- play poorly. If you want to start a business- try, experiment- every failure is a step closer to success. Just, be faithful with what you do have! And, when you hit that wall that makes you want to give up (because you will)- tell it “no” and push, push, push past, become better by building your capacity for endurance. Manage your time so that you can implement these habits into your everyday. It’s not a jump, but tiny, tiny steps, that take us further than we could ever dream.
You can’t create a life on a lofty dream, you can only create a life on small habits.
What will you start doing today?
